Learning to Lead
Straits International School is proud to offer its students the opportunity to serve as student leaders through the Straits International School Student Council. The Student Council has a highly active and functional role. Its purpose is not to govern the students, but to serve as a liaison between the student body and the administration. Additionally, the Council seeks to cultivate and strengthen school spirit and pride.
These student leaders commit their time, energy, and ideas in order to improve the quality of life for all in the Straits Community, and they also try to add a few moments of fun to everyone’s intense schedule.
In addition to being a wonderful learning experience, it demonstrates to the students that they have a voice in the school and that staff value their input. The biggest value of the Student Council, however, is to provide students with a model of the democratic decision-making process and leadership.
Our Student Council Executive Board is composed of a President, Vice-President, and Secretary. Joining our Executive Board are the 16 Classroom reps from Year 3 - 10.
Student council elections are held at the beginning of each academic year. Our chosen leaders are expected to act as role models in all aspects of school. The Straits International School Student Council is the main student-led organisation in Straits.
