Review of Dragons U11 Football Straits against Dala
13 February 2015
On Friday 6th February, Straits Dragons was represented by an U11s football team that travelled to Dalat, for the first time, to participate in a friendly game against their U11s team. Straits received a warm welcome and arrived in good time so that students could prepare and get ready for the game.
It was a fairly even start, with both teams coming close to scoring from close and long range shots at goal. The Straits defence worked hard to limit Dalat’s scoring opportunities by putting their bodies in the way to block any shots at goal that they could. In attack, Ayush, Sato and Ashvin worked well together to put the opposition under pressure and enjoyed lots of possession of the ball. The first half finished with a score of 2-1 in favour of Straits.
Some changes were made to both teams, with Victor coming on in midfield for his Straits debut and Indesh being asked to step back in a more defensive role. Straits made an impressive start to the second half and enjoyed some good spells of possession. The midfield worked hard to link with Sato up front and this created a lot of goal scoring opportunities for Straits. Everyone was battling hard in each position and demonstrated outstanding determination to win back the ball from the opposition. Some clinical finishing from the Straits attack meant that the game ended 7-2 with hat-tricks being scored by both Ashvin and Sato, and Ioan rounding things off with a well-earned goal of his own.
It was a great overall performance from the Straits Dragons and should give the boys a lot of confidence going into their next tournament at the end of the February. Even though many positives can be taken from that game, they certainly have a few things to practice in the near future if they want to continue to compete with the other International schools in Penang.
