What we learnt about this week

Dear Parents,

This week in English, we began to write our narratives based on our text Wolf Brother.

In Maths, we have continued to prepare our ‘Theme Park’ project. We have now presented our advertising section of the work and have calculated the related profits/loss.

In Science, we learned about acid and metal reactions to produce a white solid substance and hydrogen gas as well as how acids react with carbonates to release ‘fizz’ (carbon dioxide). We also used hydrogen peroxide and mixed it with a yeast mixture to create the ‘elephant toothpaste’, which is a reaction that not only creates an oozing foamy mixture (as a result of oxygen displacement), but also gives out energy making the foam feeling warm to touch.

In Humanities we have been learning about Christopher Columbus and the discovery of the New World.

What we plan for next week

Next week in English, we will redraft our narratives based on our text Wolf Brother.

In Maths, we will complete the work, and give our final presentations of the whole project.

Next week, in Science, we will be learning more about other simple chemical reactions.

Next week in Humanities, students will begin to learn about the Wild West.

Homework

Homework goes home on a Thursday and should be returned by the following Tuesday.

English: Read chapters 12 – 14 and record some notes.

Maths: All presentation design and calculation work must be properly completed, ready for presentation in next week’s lessons.

Science: to complete a worksheet on simple chemical reactions.

How you can help your child at home

  • Encourage healthy eating habits - healthy snacks and lunches, and a water bottle
  • Provide a calm environment for your child to study
  • Praise efforts and encourage your child to be independent
  • Refer to your child’s timetable for reminders about library and PE (wear PE uniform on PE days!)
  • Help your child to develop a love of reading- Give praise, use reading as a reward, and write in their Home Reader book (Yellow book!).
