What we learnt about this week

Dear Parents,

This week in English, we have started writing explanation texts about our inventions.

In Maths, we completed our assessment tasks and began the initial stages of a new group project.

In Science, we completed our assessment.

In PSHE, we learned about tolerance.

In Humanities we have continued our historical study of the 1960s by exploring popular music and technology.  We have advertised new music and inventions.

What we plan for next week

Next week in English, we will prepare, practise and improve a spoken presentation or performance for our invention sales pitch.

In Maths, we will be starting to organise a group project to set up a ‘theme park’. This will give opportunities for design, area work, profit and loss work and presentation skills. This project will take at least two weeks to complete.

In Science, we will be discussing the answers to the assessments and continue with the topic on reproduction.

Next week in PSHE, we will create a final project for corridor display boards on global citizen.

In Humanities we will recreate art work in the style of Andy Warhol.

Homework

Homework goes home on a Thursday and should be returned by the following Tuesday.

English: Invent a machine to sell and study for the weekly spelling test.

Maths: Design the logos for the group’s ‘company’.

Science: to complete a worksheet.

How you can help your child at home

  • Encourage healthy eating habits - healthy snacks and lunches, and a water bottle
  • Provide a calm environment for your child to study
  • Praise efforts and encourage your child to be independent
  • Refer to your child’s timetable for reminders about library and PE (wear PE uniform on PE days!)
  • Help your child to develop a love of reading- Give praise, use reading as a reward, and write in their Home Reader book (Yellow book!).
