What we learnt about this week
This week in English, we have begun to look at our final unit of work – ‘Comic Strips’. We have looked at some of the elements involved and started to create one of our own. As part of our introduction to the topic, we have also visited the Asia Comic Culture Museum in Georgetown.
In Maths, we learnt to solve ratio and proportion word problems. We also applied our knowledge and understanding in symmetrical patterns by making watercolour butterflies.
In Science this week, we have been learning about our solar system. We learned about the Sun, which is a star and the moon, which is our natural satellite. We also looked at their sizes in comparison to our planet Earth.
In PSHE, we have been discussing our own ideas of the word ‘communities’. We have begun to decide what makes a good community, within different contexts.
What we plan for next week
In English lessons, we will be looking in more detail at the steps needed to create successful comic strip writing.
In Maths, we will explore nets of 3D shapes particularly of prisms and pyramids. We will be looking at the properties of prisms and pyramids and finding their similarities and differences.
In Science, we will be looking at our spinning Earth, where we will learn about the day and night phenomenon. We will also be looking at the Earth’s rotation around the Sun and explain how there are seasons.
In PSHE, we will be looking at the types of services and amenities that are needed to make a successful community.
In English – complete the ‘cold task’ comic strip that was begun in class.
In Maths – ratio and proportion word problems.
In Science - complete a worksheet on science vocabulary (Earth and Beyond).
