What we learnt about this week
This week in English, we have been researching and writing our own report about an endangered animal.
In Maths, we have started a new topic, ‘Measurement’. We identified units of length and distance and learned when to use them.
In Science, we have been exploring food chains and completing an end of topic assessment on ‘Living Things’.
In First Language Mandarin, we have been learning new vocabulary about different seasons.
In Second Language Mandarin, we have been learning about how to tell the time, using language such as quarter, hour, minute and seconds.
What we plan for next week
Next week in English, we will be completing our ‘Reports’ topic and start looking at our new book, Diary of a Killer Cat.
Next week in Maths, we will continue to explore measurement by looking at capacity.
Next week in Science, we will be spending time closing the gap on various areas of the topic ‘Living Things’.
Next week in First Language Mandarin, we will be using our knowledge of different seasons to describe them verbally and through writing tasks.
Next week in Second Language Mandarin, we will be using their knowledge of time to talk about when they wake up, have break time, have their lunch and go to sleep.
Homework will be given out on Thursday and we ask that homework be handed in on Tuesday. This week’s homework consists of handwriting practice, one side of Maths, one side of English. As well as this, we ask that your child is reading the Oxford Reading Tree book as well as any other reading materials daily.
Your child’s Edmodo username and password is in their school planner if you and your child would like to access Edmodo to revisit educational games and activities.
How you can help your child at home

- Provide a calm environment for your child to study
- Praise efforts and encourage your child to be independent
- Refer to your child’s timetable for reminders about library and PE (wear PE uniform on PE days!)
- Help your child to develop a love of reading- Give praise, use reading as a reward, write in their Home Reader book (Yellow book!).
