What we learnt about this week
The Year Ones, as with everybody in the school, have been very busy rehearsing with the Performing Arts staff for the school production. The children had their first chance to try their songs and dances on the stage in the MPH. They all seem to be very excited about the upcoming play!
This week in English, we did lots of fun work on learning about punctuation and reading with fluency and meaning. We are very pleased with their reading progress. Please listen and encourage your child to read every night for five to ten minutes.
In Maths we completed our measuring unit by using scales to explore weights of g and kg. We began to investigate 2D and 3D shapes around the school. The children classified shapes and grouped shapes according to their properties.
In Science we concluded our unit on ‘Sound’. We enjoyed a discussion on ear and how they can keep us safe and make us happy. As for Art, 1L began sewing their stuffed toys and started with the first step of stitching the facial features.
What we plan for next week
Next week is Straits 7 Compassionate Week where the children will focus on showing compassion within the community. The students will discuss this quality and be asked to observe examples of this. The Year Ones will make an ‘I will’ statement for display.
For Maths we will continue to explore shapes in more detail with a focus on 3D shapes. In English we will continue to focus on punctuation and writing descriptive sentences. As for Science we will revise key learning points from all the units covered this year.
Generally homework goes home on a Thursday and should be returned by the following Tuesday. Spelling lists can be found at the start of each week in the student planner with a test on Friday during our English lesson.
The homework for this week is:
English: Reading task
Maths: Shape sheet
Science: Revision based work
Peter Pan Performance: Please use the links below to practise the dances for the Peter Pan production next week.
