What we learnt about this week
Thank you to those of you who could make it to today’s Father’s Day Assembly. We really do appreciate your efforts and it was wonderful to see everybody having a good time. Thank you to the dads who could take time off to attend such a special event. We hope you enjoyed the gifts.
This week in English, we continued our unit on ‘Fantasy Stories’ and focused on characters. We read another story and composed some superpower elements for a character.
In Maths we moved on to measuring capacity and weight using standard units of measure such as ml and L as well as g and kg. The children are getting much better at gauging the capacity, weight and length of an object now.
In Science, we conducted a pitch test using glass test tubes. The Year Ones enjoyed striking their test tubes and blowing their straws to observe the changes in sounds.
What we plan for next week
For Maths we begin our unit on 2D and 3D shapes, looking at the properties associated with the various shapes.
In English we will have some closing the gap tasks to conclude our ‘Fantasy Stories’ unit and also be focusing on grammar and vocabulary.
As for Science we will explore sounds using our other senses and we will make a hearing device.
Generally homework goes home on a Thursday and should be returned by the following Tuesday. Spelling lists can be found at the start of each week in the student planner with a test on Friday during our English lesson.
The homework for this week is:
English: Character Development sheet
Maths: Ranking capacity sheet
PSHE: Manners- Reminder of the importance of saying Thank You.
How you can help your child at home
- Ask your child to read the time at various times throughout the day.
- Encourage healthy eating habits - healthy snacks and lunches, and a water bottle
- Provide a calm environment for your child to study
- Praise efforts and encourage your child to be independent
- Refer to your child’s timetable for reminders about library, PE and activities (wear PE uniform on PE days)
